Nuevo Futuro exploit their workers and get rid of them if they ask for their legal rights.
We are protesting today against the company Nuevo Futuro, who exploit their workers and refuse to comply with the labour laws.
Nuevo Futuro is an NGO which receives huge sums of public money to run sheltered accomodation for young people in care. Our union member was employed there as a carer for these vulnerable young people. She was refused a new contract- the third in six months- for protesting against practices that are illegal and clearly against the interests of both the workers and the young people in their care.
Nuevo Futuro imposed working conditions that include:
-working up to 90 hours a week
- shifts in charge of the young people for 72 hours, without a break or respite
-being expected to cover absences of colleagues on top of the normal working week
- work several hours of unpaid overtime a week
When our union member protested about these conditions, she was told that, although her work record was impeccable, her contract would not be renewed as her ´refusal to work overtime did not fit with the kind of worker they wanted in this company.´ Nuevo Futuro now owe this worker 1400 euros in severance pay and unpaid overtime, but they are refusing to meet and negotiate with us regarding this.
We are asking you to show support for this worker in demanding that the company pay her what they owe her and that they regularise the precarious position of their workforce.
